„beep beep beep“ the alarm clock sounds. ignore
„piiiiep piiiieeep piiieeeeep“ shrill screeching of the alarm clock, my heartbeat soaring, that the breathing mask crashes into my face,
„DAMNED“ – I shout unabashedly – nobody hears me here anyway.
Not only am I awake, I am also directly annoyed and before my morning ration of „gold“ I am not master of my senses.
Mistress, mind you, but nobody here is interested in that. Least of all me.
A short time later, after a short lap of honor in what they call „bath“ here, jail would be more appropriate, I am already on my way to the research room.
Today a new experiment is on the agenda, Torben, our leader has been raving about it all last week.
Today it’s getting serious.
The new experiment is supposed to prove that there are genetically created races that are able to develop independently and treat their planet lovingly and not destroy it.
Experiments A to L were pure failures. As was to be expected.
This universe was one of the younger ones and one could almost rightly claim to be one of the most unnecessary.
Torben, hated it when I said that. But I was convinced of that.
We had consistently had bad results in all previous experiments.
Either the experiments destroyed themselves in a very short time, or their planet, or both.
Our team, put all their hopes on – M – In the belief that the mistakes of the past would not be made again.
After all, the mistakes in the genetic code had been corrected, and there were already promising species on the planet we wanted to integrate.
When I arrived, the whole team was already assembled and looked out of the round window that stretched across the entire room. The view was once again overwhelming.
„Too bad that this beautiful planet will soon be a heap of ashes and coal dust, too,“ Brian murmured as I stood next to him. Torben looked over at us disapprovingly.
„A little more enthusiasm people. Just try harder,“ he said and went to his desk.
„In 15 minutes we will reach their orbit. There’s no mention in our files that any of us have been here, so I guess we’re free to go and have a good romp.“
So we went to him.
The moment when we initiated the start of the experiments was always particularly solemn … we hugged each other and I looked at my husband, who had been trying to get through to me the whole time.
Since telepathy was forbidden on the ship, I couldn’t show him that his signals were getting through, but he knew from my facial expressions that they were. There were many couples on the ship, but our boss said it would lower the group’s morale if we showed it too openly, so we couldn’t even stay in the same cabins.
What were we getting into?
„Hey, Kati. You’re the first one today. Let’s go.“
My husband got big eyes and a red head, I knew he hated it when Brian and Torben preferred me.
To be first on the new planet was also to be favoured by the bosses, but they probably just chose me because I was the last one to arrive at the meeting.
„Well then. Here we go.“ I said, „Here we go,“ and I laid down on the appropriate chaise longue and got wired across the room.
„But this time, don’t put life support on until after I’ve gone. I said that, and everyone laughed.
The bums had already slammed the tube onto my chest when I hadn’t even been over there yet.
„Guys, this stuff is just so you don’t have to check up on me so much. When is my husband coming?“
He was already standing next to me, giving me one last kiss and whispering to me, „Soon my heart. I won’t let you wait too long.“
I was going to say „You say that every time.“ But then it started.
Through a monitor I was shown what we already knew about the planet and through a cable this was sent directly into my memory.
In addition I saw pictures which already let me suspect that also experiment – M – would fail again, like the others before.
Although the predominant species there did not seem to be too intelligent, it was apparently unconscious to a great extent and strove to kill everything was foreign to it.
„This is gonna be fun.“ The others around me nodded. I’ve never seen a planet worse than this one.
Since I had not written the schedule and only knew the rough task details, Brian felt that too much knowledge spoils the effect. I was curious to see what I would end up with this time.
Well.., this time no exoskeleton seemed to be needed, which was the case on almost all other planets and annoyed us.
The freedom of movement with these things, is immensely limited and no one can say that it is fun. Although mature exoskeletons were able to adapt well to the body inside, but in principle they were all useless.
After that it turned black around me and I lost consciousness…
Part 2 on its way! Katja
Than get out of your room and work for it. Theres is no way around. Everything needs practice, time and effort. Dont be discouraged if it doesnt work immediatly as you thought. Someday it will! Dont be afraid to take punches.
